The Three Dads' Football Season Wonderland

How absolutely amazing is it to have football back, and fans back! What a breathless first weekend of footy it was. Simply great. I'm sat here in front of BT Sport to watch the type of match that later in the season will just be a routine shalacking of minion by a Sky 6 team, but which at this stage is still unpredictable and joyous. Last week, of course, we had the impassioned Brentford performance vs Arsenal. Their fans literally ole-ing after 32 minutes in one of the finest piss takes I've seen by a newly promoted team. By comparison, Man Utd fans took until the 89th minute to start their ole-ing, in a hugely impressive win. Players that shone for me over the weekend were: Emile Smith-Rowe for Arsenal. Despite them losing, he was their everything. He reminded me of one of the elephants in the room that I'll come onto. Bruno Fernandes. Christ he's a bit good isn't he?  It is here. I absolutely love this time of the year. Summer is still with us and all of a sudden we have the dawn of a new season. Those few weeks in the year when hope still exists before the trundling inevitability of the season's outcomes dawns upon us all! It truly feels like no time at all has passed since the end of last season. This is the sort of thing that my mum or wife, or a football hater, tends to say. But this year, even I feel it. We rolled right from the season into the Euros, then straight into the season. We've got players like Kane who have only been back in training for a day, many teams are the same with international players still resting post Olympics etc and to an extent the start feels premature.  Add to that the transfer window. Is it my imagination, or did we last year enjoy a window that closed [like it should] before day 1 of the season kicked off.
